AI Inside Our CFO and CMO Engagements
Our fractional CFOs and CMOs use AI as a working tool every day. When a finance or marketing problem can be solved faster with AI, the same executive who owns the outcome designs the fix, builds it and stands behind the numbers.
Why the executive should direct the AI
AI does exactly what it is asked. The hard part is knowing what to ask and what a wrong answer costs. A CFO knows which number the bank will question. A CMO knows which lead source is real. Putting the AI work in their hands means the tool gets pointed at the decision that matters, and somebody accountable checks the output before it reaches a lender, a board or a customer.
It also keeps the work joined up. Our three service lines (Fractional CFO, Fractional CMO and AI Implementation) overlap on purpose. A billing workflow touches cash flow and the customer experience; a CRM touches the sales pipeline and the forecast.
CFO-led AI work
Typical projects inside a Fractional CFO Partnership:
- Billing and invoicing automation. Turning a manual, error-prone billing cycle into a rules-based process that drafts invoices from the source data and flags exceptions for a person to review.
- Pipeline, bidding and CRM systems. One trusted pipeline number, built from the estimating and sales data the company already has, with rules for how bids are counted and aged.
- Nightly leadership dashboards. Accounting data flowing into the KPIs leadership reviews each week, with reconciliation checks before any figure is published.
Example: for a growing commercial subcontractor, a CFO-led rebuild of the bid pipeline and CRM gave leadership one agreed pipeline number for the board and the bank. Reported bid volume came down about 10% once revised bids stopped counting twice. Read the full case study.
CMO-led AI work
Typical projects inside a Fractional CMO engagement:
- Lead routing and follow-up. Inquiries tagged by source and fit, routed to the right person and followed up on a schedule, so fewer leads go cold.
- Marketing reporting that ties to revenue. Spend, leads and closed work in one view instead of three platform dashboards.
- Content production with review. AI drafts, the CMO edits, and nothing ships that the business could not stand behind.
- Search and AI visibility. Making a website readable to search engines and AI assistants: structured data, plain-language answers and checks that block unsupported claims.
Example: our own website. Marketing leadership decided what the site had to say, and AI did the production work. Across consecutive 90-day periods in 2026, visits from organic search nearly doubled and visits referred by AI assistants grew roughly sixfold, with no advertising spend. Read the full case study.
How it fits your engagement
AI work is planned like any other part of the engagement: we agree what it should change, in hours, errors or margin, before building, and report against it with everything else. You own what gets built.

Common Questions
No. The standalone AI Implementation Strategy is a fixed-fee engagement on its own. When the problem is mainly financial or mainly marketing, though, the work usually goes further inside a CFO or CMO engagement, because the executive who owns the outcome is directing it.
Usually the question comes first, then the tool. We start from the decision leadership cannot make today and decide whether AI, a process change or both is the fastest way to answer it.
Not in our engagements. The aim is to take repeated, low-judgment work off people so the same team handles more with fewer errors.
Every figure is tied out to its source before anyone relies on it, and every workflow has a named person who reviews exceptions. If a number cannot be reconciled, it is not published.
